Curtain Track Rollers – White Plastic Runner with Hook

White plastic curtain track rollers that run on a wheel in the track channel and carry a standard curtain hook, as spares or in bulk for fit-outs.

Спрашивайте

Curtain track rollers are the small parts that decide whether a curtain pulls easily or fights you every morning. This one is white plastic, runs on a wheel inside the track channel, and carries a standard curtain hook on an open hook below the wheel.

It is a runner, not a fitting: it goes into the track that is already on the ceiling or the wall, and it is the part that wears out first. Buyers also ask for them as curtain rollers, which is the same part under a shorter name. When a curtain starts to catch, drag or drop out of line, the curtain track rollers are almost always the reason, and replacing them costs a fraction of replacing the track.

R&C supplies them white as standard, as spares in small quantities and in bulk for hotels, rental turnover and repeat fit-outs, alongside the tracks they run in.

Wheel, not a slider

Track systems use one of two things to carry a curtain: a slider that glides, or a curtain track roller that turns. Both exist because they suit different jobs, and it is worth knowing which one you are looking at before you order a replacement.

A slider is a single moulding that bears on the channel surface and slides along it. It is simple and quiet when new, and the whole body takes the wear. A roller puts the movement into one small wheel that turns as the curtain is pulled, so the contact point changes constantly instead of running over the same spot.

That is why the curtain track roller is the part you find in tracks that are pulled every day — a living room window, a hotel room, a shop front — while sliders turn up where a curtain is set once and left alone. If the track you are refitting came with wheels, replacing them with sliders is not an upgrade; the channel is shaped for a wheel and the slider will not sit in it properly.

How a runner sits in the track

The wheel goes up into the channel and the hook comes down through the slot, and that is the whole basis of how curtain track rollers work. The curtain hook then hangs on the open hook, which is why this type is sometimes described as a runner with hook rather than a plain wheel.

Two things follow from that arrangement. First, the wheel is captive: once the end cap is on the track it cannot come out, so the curtain cannot be pulled off the end by accident. Second, the hook does the hanging and the wheel does the travelling, which means the two jobs are separated and neither part is asked to do the other’s work.

The open hook also makes the curtain easy to take down without dismantling anything. Unhook the curtain, leave the runners in the track, and the whole heading comes away in one piece — useful when curtains go out for cleaning on a schedule.

Which tracks these suit

A wheel needs a channel to run in and a slot for the hook to pass through, so this runner fits tracks built that way: the PVC track profiles, the corded and the motorised tracks, and the aluminium profiles in the range where the channel opening matches.

It is not a universal part. Three things have to line up before a runner will work in a track it was not bought with: the channel has to be wide enough for the wheel to sit in and deep enough that it does not bind, the slot has to be wide enough for the hook to pass without rubbing, and the end cap or the master carrier has to accept the runner’s body so the last one in the run still folds flat.

If you are matching curtain track rollers to a track you did not buy from us, send the profile — a photo of the cross-section with a rule against it settles it faster than a description. This is the one question that causes most returns on small parts, and it is answered in a single picture.

What this runner is not

It is not a wave or S-fold carrier. Wave headings hang from carriers that clip into the wave tape at a fixed pitch, and those are a different part with a different body. We list them separately on the S-fold and S-wave runner pages, and mixing the two is the usual reason a wave curtain will not hold its fold.

It is not a master carrier. On a corded or belt-driven track the two end runners are the master carriers that the cord or belt attaches to, and they carry the drive. Those come with the track and are not interchangeable with an ordinary runner.

It is not a bracket or an end cap. It runs inside the track; it does not hold the track up and it does not close the end.

Counting how many you need

A runner hangs one curtain hook, so the count for a set of curtain track rollers follows the heading rather than the track length. Count the hooks in the heading tape, or the pockets in a pleat tape, and that is your number.

Two adjustments are worth making. Add a few spares: runners are small, they get lost between the sofa and the wall, and a bag of ten costs less than a second delivery. And if the existing track is being restrung rather than replaced, count what came out — a track that has lost runners over the years is often short of a full set, and the curtain has been hanging with uneven pleats ever since.

For a fit-out, work from the window schedule rather than the room count. Two windows of the same width in different rooms can carry different headings, and the heading is what sets the number.

Where they go

Replacing a worn set. The commonest order. A track that is still sound but pulls badly usually needs runners, not a new track.

Hotel and serviced apartment turnover. Curtains come down for cleaning on a cycle, and runners take the handling. Keeping a stock on site means a room goes back into service the same day.

Repeat fit-outs. A fitter who uses the same profile across jobs keeps a box of the matching runner, because a missing runner on the last window of a job is a second visit.

Repairing a track that came with a flat. Rental stock is often short of runners and nobody notices until the curtain will not close.

Swapping a runner

Take the end cap off the track, or open the last joint if the run is long enough to work from the middle, and slide the old runners out. Feed the new one in the same way, hook down, wheel up, and push it along the channel until it reaches its place. Put the end cap back before the curtain goes on.

Do the whole run rather than the broken one. Runners in a set wear together, and a new wheel among old ones will take more of the pull than its share — which is why a single replacement tends to be followed by another a month later.

Care

Leave the wheel dry. Oil in a track channel collects dust until the wheel stops turning and starts skidding, and a skidding wheel wears a flat on one side. A dry cloth in the channel once a year does more for a set of curtain track rollers than any lubricant.

Check the hook, not just the wheel. The open hook is what the curtain hangs from, and a hook that has been bent open by a heavy heading will let the curtain hook slip out under its own weight. Close it gently with pliers rather than bending the wheel side, which is the part that has to stay true.

Questions buyers ask

Will these fit my existing track?

If the track has a channel with a slot underneath and the runners in it look like this — a wheel with a hook below — they will. If the channel opening or the slot is a different size, send a photo of the profile cross-section with a rule against it and we will confirm before you order.

How do I know how many curtain track rollers to order?

Count the hooks in the heading tape, or the pockets in a pleat tape. One runner carries one hook. Add a few spares, and if you are restrung an old track, count what came out of it rather than working from the window width.

Can I replace just the broken ones?

You can, but replace the run. Curtain track rollers wear as a set, so a new wheel among worn ones takes more than its share of the pull and the next failure usually follows within weeks.

Do these work on a corded track?

In the channel, yes — but the two end positions on a corded track are master carriers that the cord attaches to, and those are a different part. Order the ordinary runners for the middle of the run and keep the masters that came with the track.

Are they sold as a set or singly?

Both, depending on quantity — small replacement orders and bulk orders for fit-outs go through the same enquiry. Tell us the track profile and the count and the packing follows from that.

Related products

These curtain track rollers sit in the curtain runner range with the wave and S-fold carriers, which are a different part: the white plastic S fold curtain runner and the S wave curtain runner. The tracks they run in are the PVC single curtain track, the double curtain track for a sheer and a drape, the corded curtain track, and in metal the steel curtain track and the aluminium adjustable curtain track. Fixing is separate: curtain track brackets carry the track, and bulk or OEM quantities go through the enquiry form.
